As an enthusiastic chef, I often can’t resist opening the oven midway through baking a cake, to see how it’s coming along. (And to smell it!)
But as it turns out, opening the oven while it’s hot wastes more energy than you’d imagine. Every time you open the oven door while baking, the temperature drops about 25 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning the food will take even longer to cook, and you’re wasting energy in the process. To combat this problem, we suggest using a timer to set the cooking time, and cleaning your oven window so that you can see how your dish is progressing without opening the oven. So next time you cook, try to resist taking a peek, and keep your oven closed!
